Spec’s no longer interested in buying Sigel’s

Houston-based Spec’s Wines, Spirits Finer Foods is no longer interested in buying Dallas-based Sigel’s Beverages, a Spec’s spokesperson said Thursday.

“No, we are not buying Sigel’s. We had some negotiations going on, but that’s it,” said Lisa Rydman Key, company spokesperson.

Key wouldn’t comment on why the liquor store chain, with more than 100 locations across the state, decided not to buy Sigel’s besides saying, “Those kinds of things, we like to keep really private.”

space. The 48,000-square-foot store opened five months after the company announced its plans in July to enter the Dallas market.

“We have been received very well and the customers that have come in have been, I think, very happy,” Key said. “We are thrilled to have put it together so quickly.”

At this time, Spec’s is also looking to open three more locations in the DFW area.

The company signed a lease at 2750 S. Hulen St. in Fort Worth, Key said. The building is currently Marvin Electronics Co. Key said she didn’t know the timeline of when the store will open, but Marvin Electronics is still operating out of the space.

Spec’s is also planning to open a location at 1208 N. Highway 377 in Roanoke, according to a sales tax permit application with the state. Key couldn’t confirm the exact address.

Although not confirmed by the company, another location, selling only beer and wine, is expected at Gleneagles shopping center in Plano. Spec’s Family Partners Ltd. applied for a sales tax permit in early November for “Specs Wine Beer No. 151″ at 5930 W. Park Blvd. Ste. 1400.
